Description
A go-to recipe for easy marinated tofu that can be eaten over rice, in salads, or on sandwiches. A simple way to cook tofu that you'll want to make again & again!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (14 ounce) package (extra firm tofu)
- ¼ cup soy sauce (or Liquid Aminos)
- 3 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu: press the tofu for 20 minutes using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a kitchen towel and pressing it between two cutting boards with a heavy object (like books) on top.
- Make the marinade: in a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, vinegar, and maple syrup.
- Cut the tofu: slice the tofu into cubes about ½ inch thick.
- Marinate the tofu: add the tofu to a shallow dish (like an 8 x 8” baking dish or pie tin). Pour the marinade over the tofu. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Marinate for longer or overnight for stronger flavor.
- Cook the tofu: in a large skillet over medium high heat, add the sesame oil. Once hot, add the tofu to the skillet and set aside any remaining marinade. Cook for about 5 - 7 minutes, flip and cook for 5 minutes more. Tofu should be browned.
- Add any extra marinade: turn the heat to medium-low and pour in any remaining marinade. Cook 2 - 3 minutes more.
- Serve: serve warm. Optionally, serve over white rice, garnished with green onions, and drizzled with your favorite sauce (we like to use Sriracha mayo).
