    This easy hummus recipe uses only 5 ingredients & is ready in 5 minutes. It's made from the perfect traditional mix of: chickpeas, lemon juice, garlic, tahini & salt.

    Easy Hummus Ingredients

    • 2 cups chickpeas, drained and rinsed
    • ¼ cup tahini 
    • 1 lemon, juiced
    • 3 cloves garlic
    • ½ teaspoon salt

    How to Make Easy Hummus

    ? Step 1: Blend

    Add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. 

    ? Step 2: Add Water

    Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until your hummus reaches your desired consistency (I usually end up adding 2 TBSP).

    ? Step 3: Taste Test

    Taste and add additional salt if preferred. 

    ? Step 4: Serve

    Serve as a dip for chips, fruit or vegetables or use as a spread for toast or sandwiches.

    How long is homemade hummus good for?

    Homemade hummus can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 to 5 days.

    Can you freeze hummus?

    Yes, you can freeze hummus in an airtight container. You could even make a double (or triple) batch of this recipe and then freeze portion-sized containers to enjoy later. Thaw the hummus 24 hours before you want to eat it.

    Is homemade hummus keto/vegan/gluten free?

    This homemade hummus is not keto (because it uses chickpeas, a source of carbs), but it is vegan and it is gluten free.

    Tips for Making Hummus

    • Use a good quality Tahini: a classic ingredient in hummus, Tahini gives a lot of flavor and it makes a difference what quality you use.
    • Add a little water: after you blend the hummus, it should be very thick. You'll want to add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until it reaches your desired consistency.
    • Blend well: use a food process or high-speed blender and blend until your hummus is smooth (and not grainy). There shouldn't be any lumps in your hummus.
