Description

This easy beef and broccoli recipe is an all time takeout-inspired favorite! It's ready in only 20 minutes and uses THE BEST flavorful sticky sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain into strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 4 - 5 cups broccoli florets (about 2 heads)
  • ½ cup soy sauce (or Tamari sauce for gluten-free)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce: In a medium bowl, stir together the ingredients for the sauce: soy sauce, honey, garlic, rice vinegar, sriracha, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium high heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the steak and cook for 3 - 4 minutes on each side, until browned. Set aside and drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Cook the broccoli: Add ¼ cup water to the pan over medium high heat. Once hot, add the broccoli. Cover and cook for 3 - 5 minutes, until tender. Add more water if needed. Stir occasionally. Set aside and drain any remaining water.
  4. Cook the sauce: Pour the sauce into the pan, bring it to a boil and then reduce the heat until the sauce is simmering gently. Make a cornstarch slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and pour it into the pan. Simmer for 3 - 4 minutes, until thickened.
  5. Add beef & broccoli: Stir in the beef and broccoli and cook an additional 1 - 2 minutes, until heated through.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately, optionally over white rice and garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Spice: this recipe has a mild spice level. To reduce the spiciness, leave out the Sriracha and red pepper flakes.
